You can get acquainted with the fine art of contemporary Kostroma masters of painting and sculpture at the Municipal Art Gallery of Kostroma, which is located in the city center, on Mira Square.
This museum opened its doors to visitors in 1996. There are three spacious exhibition halls here with an area of more than 300 sq.m. The exhibitions mainly present paintings by artists of the second half of the 20th century.
In addition to local painters – Алексея Беляева, Анатолия Жукова, Александра Аханова, Владислава Грачёва and many others, in the museum galleries you can appreciate works by masters from all over Russia: there are paintings here by Юрия Васильева, Алексея Каменского and Бориса Турецкого. The work of the Kostroma sculptor Владимира Смирнова deserves special mention. In addition, photographic works are also exhibited here.
In its activities, the Municipal Art Gallery of Kostroma relies, first and foremost, on supporting innovative ideas in art of different genres and styles. Exhibitions by completely unknown but promising artists are often held here, who are given a chance to demonstrate their vision of the world through the prism of art and to make a name for themselves through the quality and originality of their works.
