It so happened that the highest point in Kostroma Oblast is a man-made structure. It is a television tower located not far from the city of Galich. It is 350 meters high, and it was built in the early 1990s.
It was expected that the tower would be able to cover the entire oblast with a TV signal, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union the grand structure was abandoned, and now it is an attraction favored by fans of extreme tourism and BASE jumpers.
The Galich TV tower is installed in a deserted area. It is supported by several guy wires - iron cables that pose some danger to reckless BASE jumpers.
No special equipment is provided for climbing to the top - you have to climb by hand, using an ordinary metal ladder. Once you get up there, you can take stunning photos - forests, fields, and roads stretch all the way to the horizon. Some thrill-seekers even stay overnight at the top.
To get to the TV tower, you need to make arrangements with the guards who are here to prevent possible theft of the installed equipment.
