An amazing temple that is unique not only for its architecture, but also for the material from which it was created. All the temples of Angkor were built primarily of sandstone, while red brick was used in the construction of Prasat Kravan, which is uncharacteristic of Cambodia, especially several centuries ago.
Another amazing fact is that the Khmers did not use any binding material for the brick – neither cement nor plant glue as in other temples. Nevertheless, the structure has survived to this day.
Another difference is that there are no images or inscriptions on the outside walls. But inside you can see many beautiful bas-reliefs depicting Hindu gods. For example, the eight-armed Vishnu, to whom this temple is dedicated, is surrounded by many smaller figures. On the other walls there are bas-reliefs of Lakshmi and Garuda. All these images are executed in a distinct manner, so historians believe that they were created by different masters. Most likely, this was done in order to speed up the construction and decoration of the temple.
Unfortunately, most of the bas-reliefs have been lost forever, but even from the fragments that remain, one can understand how majestic and significant Prasat Kravan was during the heyday of the Khmer Empire.
