The famous official Hai Rui was a native of Hainan. He was a minister during the Ming dynasty and became renowned for his integrity and sense of justice.
Hai Rui defended the interests of ordinary people and never backed down from his convictions, and as a result, his life path was not an easy one.
When the coffin with the body of the celebrated politician was being carried to the cemetery, the ropes suddenly snapped, which was taken as a sign, and he was immediately laid to rest there.
Today the tomb looks like a stone 8-sided pyramid. The road leading to the memorial complex passes under an arch with an inscription in Chinese: "Justice of Hainan."
Then comes an alley with statues, including figures not only of people, but also of animals, such as horses and lions. A little farther on there is an altar with incense and the symbol of wisdom — a stone turtle. In order to admire all this beauty, a gazebo by a beautiful lake has been set up.
You can learn about the life story of Hai Rui in the temple erected in his honor. This religious site became part of the memorial museum complex; it even contains the personal belongings of the official revered by all. The temple with a round roof, built on a three-tier base, was constructed in the traditional Chinese style and painted in bright colors. It is truly an iconic place for the people of China.
