This unique nature reserve covering a thousand hectares is spread across two islands. Two thousand mischievous macaques live here, and the journey to them is by air!
The islands – small and large – are connected by a cable car. From above, there is a picturesque view – of the open sea and the strait, as well as a fishing village. This is a settlement of the "sea people" with tiny houses on the water and boats. You will be able to see the details of everyday life and observe, for example, how seaweed is grown, which then ends up on our shelves.
For those who do not dare to take the extreme journey by cable car, there is a simpler route by water. On the island, you will be greeted by a monument in the form of a monkey thoughtfully gazing at a human skull. How many thoughts there are in that look!
Be careful on the excursion: the macaques are experienced thieves, and the moment you let your guard down, they may steal your wallet, bags, or camera. Plastic bags are especially popular with them – perhaps because tourists most often carry food in them. By the way, they will not let you eat here in peace either, so it is better to willingly sacrifice your provisions to the fluffy beggars. There is even a prison here for tailed offenders.
In the improvised circus, you can watch an amusing performance featuring monkeys. Be sure to take a souvenir photo with them: at the trainer's command, four macaques will sit on your head, knees, shoulders, and hands.
On the way back, you will be escorted by boat to a restaurant on the water, in that very sea fishing village. From special holding pens, they will catch whatever fish you want and cook it the way you order it.
