One of the largest gardens with tropical plants in China is located on Hainan Island near the hot springs of the same name, 100 kilometers from the city of Sanya. The area it occupies is 32 hectares.
The botanical garden is located in a very beautiful area, a few kilometers from the coast and surrounded by mountains. The Institute of Agricultural Sciences was established here in 1957, and the garden appeared under its auspices as well.
By that time, many emigrants from both distant countries and Asian countries had ended up on the island. They brought with them plants unheard of in this area. Thus, more than 1000 species of crops were soon collected here. This is a true encyclopedia of exotic plants: the flora of the tropics and deserts, palm trees and spice plants, vegetables and fruits, plants from which beverages are made.
The entire territory of the complex is divided into five main zones, including a research center with a laboratory and a recreational area. The botanical garden is among the top 10 best attractions on Hainan Island and also bears the honorary title of “National Tourist Site of AAAA Level.”
In addition to contemplating the magnificence of nature and enjoying the aromas of the blooming forest, you can sample local hot drinks. The Institute of Tropical Plants patented “Xinglong Coffee” and “Vanilla Green Tea,” which later became very popular. You can not only try them, but also buy the ones you like and bring them home as a tasty and original souvenir.
