Samui is home to a large number of architectural landmarks, parks, attractions, and other wonderful places visited by tourists. However, the most popular attraction on the island turned out to be one created by nature itself. These are two rock formations in the southern part of Lamai Beach called "Grandmother" and "Grandfather".
The reason for their incredible appeal lies in their shape – they look very much like male and female genitals. It is unknown who first noticed this feature, but the locals managed to connect a beautiful legend with the rocks.
According to legend, a married couple set out across the sea in a boat to arrange a match for their son with a bride who lived far away, but a storm arose, and the spouses died in the turbulent waves. That is how the mysterious rocks were formed, symbolizing marital fidelity, devotion, and in general, everything connected with love. It is believed that visiting "Grandmother and Grandfather" helps with conceiving children quickly.
For obvious reasons, "Grandfather" can be seen from afar, while "Grandmother" takes a little searching. Be careful, as the rocks by the water are quite slippery. Visiting the famous rocks is free, but you will have to pay for parking, as there are always a great many visitors here.
On the way, you will see many small shops, cafes, and souvenir vendors. Swimming in this place is prohibited because the shore is very rocky and you can get injured. On the other hand, it is an excellent place to watch a picturesque romantic sunset.
