Perhaps this is one of the most romantic places in Geneva, and it is best to go there at night. During the day you will not see how, in the darkness, almost 2 thousand square lights set into the cobblestones light up, bearing greeting phrases in different languages of the world. Hundreds of “Hello!”, “Hello”, “Bonjour”, “Ciao”… Molard Square acquired this appearance in 2002 thanks to the “Whisper” project, which won the competition for the reconstruction of the old square.
During the day, Molard also reminds you that Geneva is a multinational business center. And while sitting in one of the many outdoor cafes on the square, you can even see the words inscribed on the tower: “Geneva is a city of exiles!”
Of course, in the XIII century, when this space took shape, everything was different. But numerous taverns and drinking establishments were already here then, all thanks to this square's connection to the harbor.
Now it is part of the “banking” district. When in 1956 the tram tracks were moved from here a little closer to the embankment, Molard became pedestrian-only. This immediately turned the square into a place for meetings, walks with children, and gathering with friends outdoors.
