Phuket Zoo is relatively small compared to other similar establishments in Southeast Asia; its area is about five hectares.
It has a good collection of tropical animals, birds, and amphibians. Almost all of them are representatives of Thai fauna, so in a couple of hours you can get a general idea of the wildlife of Thailand.
The zoo's main inhabitants are elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, bears, leopards, and birds. The animal enclosures are spacious and comfortable, and some animals roam freely around the park. There is also a small aquarium with fish and an orchid garden.
The zoo is notable for its scheduled performances featuring various animals. In some ways, these shows resemble a traditional circus. The monkeys confidently ride bicycles, solve little puzzles, play basketball, and entertain the audience. During the extreme crocodile show, brave trainers play with the ferocious predators and even put their heads right into their toothy jaws.
The audience's favorite performance is the elephant show. The intelligent animals perform various tricks, acrobatic acts, dance, paint, and play football. At the end of the show, visitors are allowed to feed the 'artists' bananas and take photos with them.
