Bang Pae Waterfall is located in one of the cleanest and most pristine places in Phuket, in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. Bang Pae is the tallest vertical waterfall on the island: the stream of water falls in a sheer wall rather than descending over ledges and rapids.
The waterfall, which is about 17 meters high, continues as a swift stream half a kilometer long. In the waterfall basin and in several natural pools farther along the stream, you can swim in the crystal-clear, cool water.
Where the lush greenery of the jungle comes right up to the banks of the stream, you can often see inhabitants of the National Park that have come to the watering place, including porcupines, deer, wild boars, and other animals and birds.
The banks of Bang Pae, by the way, are extremely picturesque: the granite rock forms vast gentle slabs that are so pleasant to sit on while listening to the sound of the awakened water.
Ancient trees grow around the waterfall, so mighty and tall that it seems as if some dinosaur is about to peek out from these primeval jungle thickets. Beneath the giants, whose crowns disappear into the sky, bamboo thickets rage, several meters high and as thick as an adult person's arm.
On the way to Bang Pae Waterfall, you can admire plantations of the latex tree, hevea, from whose sap the most comfortable pillows and mattresses are made. Near the latex farms, there is also an elephant farm where you can watch these noble animals and even ride them.
