In the Greek part of Nicosia there is a small museum that is definitely worth visiting if you like making pleasant surprises. This is the philately and postal museum in Nicosia. Here you can buy a souvenir postcard with a beautiful stamp and send it back home. Such a sunny "hello" from distant Cyprus will surely surprise and delight your family and friends.
The museum is housed in a two-story mansion on Saint Savva Street (not far from the church of this saint). It opened relatively recently - in 1981, but many of the exhibits here are very old and unique in their own way. For example, the first stamps of the island of Cyprus, which came into use in 1878 (before that there were English ones, with the Queen's profile). Today these antique stamps are of enormous value, and any even somewhat knowledgeable philatelist would give anything for them.
In 1960 Cyprus gained independence, and this event, of course, was immediately reflected in postage stamps. Visitors can also see envelopes, postcards, and postmarks from various post offices and military camps. Mannequins dressed in postal workers' uniforms from different eras clearly show what everyday life was like for postal employees. There is even a bicycle here, which was usually used to deliver letters, magazines, newspapers, and other correspondence.
