The zoo is located not in Pafos itself, but 15 kilometers away from it toward Akamas. If you hear about a certain “Bird and Animal Park” not far from Pafos, that is exactly what it is, it was simply called “Bird and Animal Park” before, and now it has grown into “Pafos Zoo”.
This park was conceived back in 2000 by the ornithologist Christos Christoforou, who was collecting a collection of exotic birds. Three years later, he opened it to visitors. Soon, not only birds but also animals appeared here, and the private collection turned into the largest zoo in Cyprus.
Among its inhabitants are parrots, peacocks, ostriches, kangaroos, giraffes, lions, tigers, storks, and even an elephant, a total of 65 animal species. So there is plenty to see here, or rather, plenty to look at.
Every day, bird shows are held at the zoo. In a special hall, spectators are seated on large stepped benches, and the show begins. Parrots perform various circus tricks, and owls fly over the heads of visitors, who cover their heads in surprise.
These performances take place three times a day (12-00, 14-00, 16-00) and are included in the price of the admission ticket. You can also visit the natural history museum, relax in the little restaurant, buy lots of souvenirs, and play with children on the outdoor playground.
