Millomeris is the highest waterfall in Cyprus, reaching a height of 15 meters. Locals call it the greatest, although to those who have seen Niagara, it may seem like a mere stream. However, the places here are very picturesque, so as you get closer, you will be able to understand and share the delight of the Cypriots.
The name "Millomeris" comes from the combination of the words "milos" and "meris," which mean "wet" and "place," that is, "wet place." But the word "milos" has another meaning as well - "mill," and there was reportedly one in the area, so the name of the waterfall may have come from it too.
The waterfall is formed by the waters of Krios Potamos, which translated from Greek means "Cold River." The water is, of course, icy, as in all mountain rivers, but not so cold as to scare off "our" tourists. Many people swim in it and then boast to their friends that they did not even sneeze once.
You can reach the waterfall on foot or by car. There is a special trail for pedestrians that winds along the mountain slopes and in some places even offers benches for resting. Motorists will also have to walk a little at the end of the route.
By the way, the Caledonia waterfall, which is located farther upstream, is also formed by the Krios Potamos River. It is considered the second highest waterfall (13 m). So, while walking along the riverbed, you can see the two largest waterfalls in Cyprus at once.
