Akamas is one of the paradisiacal corners of Cyprus that has not yet been greatly affected by civilization. There are no paved roads, supermarkets, or luxurious hotels here, but you can encounter giant turtles, rare species of butterflies, unique plants, and much more, as well as enjoy the beauty of wild nature and deserted coves and beaches. Recently, the entire peninsula has been placed under UNESCO protection and is one of the important sites of ecological tourism.
You can travel around the peninsula on foot or by jeep. The second option is preferable only if you want to see as many beautiful places as possible. There are a great many of them on Akamas.
For example, the famous Bath of Aphrodite is a small grotto filled with water from underground springs (approximately knee-deep). According to legend, it was here that the goddess Aphrodite bathed when she saw Adonis and fell in love with him. But if myths and legends do not impress you very much, then the bath will most likely disappoint you too: there is nothing special here, only beautiful legends. Swimming here is prohibited, and you cannot collect the water either.
However, it is from here that the most exciting walking excursions begin. If you go toward the mountains, you can find the Aphrodite Trail and the Adonis Trail, each of which stretches for more than 7 km. If you go toward the sea, picturesque coves and islets will appear along the way. Heading in a northwestern direction, you can reach the very edge of Cyprus, beyond which only the endless sea stretches out.
