All diving enthusiasts know that the best place for underwater diving in Bali is near the village of Tulamben, in the northeastern part of the island. The pristine flora and fauna of Indonesia's underwater world have been wonderfully preserved here, so the conditions for diving are excellent. This is also where such an unusual attraction as the sunken ship "Liberty" is located.
An American military vessel, built in 1915, sank during World War II, was later raised to the surface for repairs, and, by irony of fate, sank again as a result of the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963.
The dramatic story of "Liberty" is offset by the magnificent underwater views that open up to divers. The ship lies at a depth of five to forty meters, making it a very accessible and popular spot even for non-professional divers. Over a long period of time, "Liberty" became covered with marine plants and corals and turned into a home for numerous fish and mollusks.
Everything divers need has been created in Tulamben – hotels, shops, entertainment. One of the hotels, located just a hundred meters from the beach, is even called - “Liberty Dive Resort”. Here you can hire an instructor who, if necessary, will give a beginner diver course and help you master the intricacies of underwater diving.
