Repulse Bay is located in the Southern District of Hong Kong and is currently one of the most popular resort areas. Housing here is prestigious and expensive. Beautiful landscapes and ideal environmental conditions have made this part of the South China Sea coast popular among both tourists and local residents.
Since 1841, the bay was used as a base for a pirate fleet that posed a serious threat to ships engaged in commercial transportation to China and back. The British repelled the pirates, freeing these waters from their influence, and the bay received its name in honor of this battle. There is also an alternative version, according to which the bay was named Repulse Bay in honor of HMS Repulsive, the last wooden battleship of the British Royal Navy, which was based here in the second half of the 19th century.
Among the interesting attractions, one can note the Hong Kong Lifesaving Club, built in the traditional Chinese style and decorated with dragons and ethnic motifs. On the eastern side of the beach you will see statues of the deities Tin Hau and Kwum Yam, protecting local fishermen from bad weather.
There are many original cafes, restaurants, and little shops in the bay area, where you can spend time pleasantly and buy something as a keepsake.
