In 1977, a non-profit organization opened in Hong Kong, working to develop all forms of art — visual, performing, and audiovisual — and to promote arts education. Today, the Hong Kong Arts Centre manages galleries and cinemas, classrooms and workshops.
The boldest and most progressive artists can present their works here. For example, an installation by teamLab from Japan was a great success: an interactive labyrinth of huge spheres that change colors in response to human touch. The main idea was to demonstrate the importance of virtual contacts. Impulses from the objects were transmitted via a wireless connection, the color intensity changed in response, and then the music in the hall adjusted as well.
The Centre hosts not only contemporary art exhibitions, but also training in various artistic techniques. Ceramics, painting, sculpture, various kinds of handicrafts — the studios offer мастер-классы in all areas.
Whenever you are in Hong Kong, you are sure to find an interesting event at the arts centre. So check its schedule and prepare for an informative and cultural pastime.
