For a long time, Hong Kong ranked third in the world film industry after India and Hollywood. A former British colony, it turned out to be a freer region - economically and politically - than mainland China and Taiwan. Its status as a separate entity allowed it to secure a special position in this industry.

For about 15 years now, the state film archive has been carrying out the tasks of preserving and promoting Hong Kong films, famous throughout the world. This government institution has confidently become one of Hong Kong's most interesting attractions.
The state film archive is located in the Sai Wan Ho district. It occupies a 4-story building with an area of more than 7 thousand sq. meters, divided into two parts: the archive itself with films on various media, and halls for film screenings and for thematic presentations and exhibitions. In the local cinema, you can watch a rare retro film.
The film archive has a collection of awards from international festivals and competitions, which were donated to the organization by Hong Kong actors and directors. The stars explain this by saying that all their awards rightfully belong to Hong Kong cinema.
