Thavibu Gallery presents contemporary art and painting not only from Thailand, but also from neighboring countries – Vietnam and Myanmar. The gallery organizers focus primarily on emerging artists, helping them find their place in the art world.
Of course, the gallery also hosts exhibitions by already acclaimed artists from Asian and European countries. However, the Thavibu staff are constantly searching for young talents who embody the cultural, ethnic, and regional characteristics of their countries in fine art.
In addition to the classical art of Southeast Asia, contemporary examples of painting and sculpture by local artists are also very interesting and unusual to the European eye. Globalization and industrialization, mixed with Buddhism and the traditional Asian attitude toward life and death, sometimes result in unique and unfamiliar images for us. Interweaving ethnic motifs into artistic compositions gives the paintings and sculptures a special character.
In addition to works by contemporary authors, Thavibu Gallery also features folk art – the traditional craft of Myanmar. Amazingly beautiful lacquerware has been known since around the 12th century. Red or black boxes, trays, and ritual cups are covered with incredibly delicate gold painting and filigree carving, and then with a special lacquer capable of preserving them for centuries.
