A very unusual project was carried out on the embankments of the Red River in honor of Hanoi's 1000th anniversary: a large section of concrete dam up to 4 km long was entirely covered with colorful mosaic.
The idea of creating this grand art object came from local artist Nguyen Thu Thuy, inspired by colorful exhibits from archaeological excavations. It took more than four years to bring the conceived composition to life. The result is now simply astonishing - it is the history of Vietnam in pictures, created with the participation of dozens of artists and hundreds of enthusiasts from across the country and abroad.
The giant panorama consists of 21 sections, each reflecting a specific theme connected with Vietnam and the world. Mainly, these are historical motifs, depictions of the lives of the great royal dynasties Ly, Tran, Le, and Nguyen. Ethnic patterns of all the peoples of Vietnam are also presented here, and there are more than 50 of them. In addition, you will see reproductions of paintings by great artists, executed in ceramics. Interestingly, even children took part in creating the mosaic, and their pictures also found their place on the embankment.
Hanoi's ceramic mosaic has no single author; it is a true mass work of art, with no equivalent anywhere else in the world.
