One of the best places to relax in the city lies before you. It was founded by the French colonialists, who in 1864 decided to lay out a garden on a 20-hectare plot. The development of the grounds was led by the botanist Jean Baptiste Louis Pierre.
The results of his work can still be enjoyed to this day. In the botanical garden, guests of Ho Chi Minh City can admire several dozen species of dwarf trees, orchids, and cacti. There are 1830 trees growing here in total: 260 of them are especially exotic and valuable, and some are more than a hundred years old. Many exotic specimens were brought from Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and India.
Originally, representatives of the local fauna caught in the nearby tropical forests were also kept right on the grounds of the park in enclosures. When the reunification of the country took place in 1975, it was decided to continue developing the zoological direction due to the growing flow of tourists. Today, more than 500 birds and animals live in the Ho Chi Minh City Zoo.
