Updated for 2026: The Old Railway Station remains one of Kuala Lumpur's most photogenic heritage buildings. It is much calmer than the city's main transport hubs now, so it's an easy stop for architecture lovers, a few photos, and a glimpse of old Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur's Old Railway Station is one of the city's most distinctive colonial-era landmarks. Built during British rule, it combines grand European proportions with Moorish-inspired arches, domes, and turrets, creating a look that still feels dramatic and elegant today.
With its airy balconies, graceful arcades, and almost fairy-tale silhouette, the building hardly looks like a working station at all. Until 2001, it was Kuala Lumpur's main rail hub. After the newer station took over most long-distance traffic, the old station was left mainly to commuter services.
That works in a visitor's favor: you can admire the unusual architecture without fighting big crowds. There is also a small railway museum inside, and the historic station hotel helps preserve the building's old-world atmosphere.
