On the grounds of the Linnanmäki amusement park in Helsinki there is an aquarium called “Sea Life”. It is the first project of its kind not only in Finland, but in all of Scandinavia. The aquatic world on land opened in 2002 and immediately became a popular city attraction. Local residents and tourists love coming here, and the most frequent visitors to the aquarium are parents with children.
The aquarium is a two-story building with many tanks in which hundreds of species of marine fauna swim. There are pools with sharks, jellyfish, and stingrays, and the most interesting feature is the huge ocean tank through which a transparent tunnel passes. Here you will feel like a real diver immersed in the depths of the sea, where the inhabitants of the mysterious deep live their own lives.
The diversity of the underwater world is astonishing: here you will see giant turtles, sea stars and urchins, schools of exotic tropical fish, and some marine inhabitants can even be touched by hand. Interactive elements complement an already fantastic spectacle.
The aquarium constantly carries out educational work related to the ecology of the Baltic Sea, working closely with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The staff, independently and with the help of volunteers, regularly organize events dedicated to environmental protection.
