The Maritime Experiential Museum, located on Sentosa Island, is the only museum in the world entirely dedicated to the history of Asia's maritime affairs. As you know, Singapore, surrounded by water on all sides, has always depended on the sea, so the appearance of such a museum is not surprising at all. It was built by “Michael Graves & Associates”, and it opened quite recently – in 2012, so the new museum is very interesting not only to visitors, but also to local residents.
The “experiential” nature of the collection is immediately striking – it is a building in the shape of a boat turned upside down. Interactive exhibits use lighting effects to tell the story of shipbuilding and maritime trade. Special attention is paid to the Maritime Silk Road, as Singapore played a significant role in transporting goods by water from Southeast to Central Asia. There is also the panoramic Typhoon cinema here, which allows visitors to find themselves aboard a ship in distress. The combination of modern technology and traditional subject matter makes the tour truly engaging.
The Maritime Experiential Museum is part of the resort complex on Sentosa Island. It features beaches and hotels, as well as many entertainment centers where performances and spectacular light shows are held in the evenings.
