Poblenou Central Park is an excellent example of how, with the involvement of city authorities and talented architects, a gloomy industrial suburb can be turned into an attractive and inviting place for recreation.
In 2008, on the site of abandoned plants and factories in the industrial district of Sant Marti, a huge park appeared — covering 5.5 hectares — decorated with living plants and numerous art objects. The project was developed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. Its main idea was to protect people from the aggressive urban environment: the noise, dust, and heat of the city remain outside the park's "living wall" - its green hedge.
The park itself is divided into three parts, each of which offers visitors whimsical design solutions: giant arches entwined with plants, enormous globe-shaped lamps, exotic flowers planted in the most unexpected places, and much, much more. The author himself calls this fantastic project "growing architecture" — the objects within it constantly change, obeying the vegetation that covers them.
Getting to Poblenou Park is easy: it is located on Avinguda Diagonal and does not require an entrance fee from guests. By the way, the famous Agbar Tower is located nearby — another masterpiece by Jean Nouvel.
