Ras Al Khor Sanctuary, despite its rather modest size - just over 6 sq. km, is a unique ecosystem. It has managed to gather such a number of animals and plants here that at first it is not even easy to believe how they coexist with each other here.
The flora is represented by more than 250 species of animals, many of which are listed in the Red Book. The fauna consists of about fifty different shrubs, mangrove and reed thickets.
Ras Al Khor attracts not only curious visitors, but also zoologists, botanists, and ecologists from all over the world, because only here can one observe wildlife concentrated right within the city limits, yet not feeling the influence of humans from the outside.
The main attraction and true mascot of the sanctuary is the flamingo; there are about 500 of them here. Many tourists come specifically to admire these graceful birds proudly striding against the backdrop of Dubai skyscrapers.
