The College of Architecture of Catalonia is a respected organization that has brought together more than 10 thousand architects to achieve a noble goal — explaining the social value of territorial planning and, in fact, architecture.
For more than 80 years now, the college has been conveying to society, the authorities, and the professional community the importance and significance of a comfortable urban environment for social and economic development. It also handles certification, holds tenders, organizes courses for architects, and performs other industry tasks that are not very interesting to outside observers.
However, travelers should also visit its headquarters: among the events regularly held for the general public (usually with free admission) are film screenings, contemporary design exhibitions, themed evenings, creative meetups, and much more related in one way or another to architecture and urban planning. The local restaurant also has a very good reputation.
The college building itself is also a landmark: its facade is decorated with a frieze created from sketches by Pablo Picasso in the 1950s. At that time, the artist was barred from entering the country for political reasons. In fact, this was the first work by Picasso that the people of Spain were able to see after the civil war of 1936-39.
