1. Tallinn Town Hall is a unique architectural monument. In all of Northern Europe, it is the only town hall that has preserved its Gothic appearance since the 15th century.

2. St. Olaf's Church. It is hard to believe now, but from 1550 to 1625 this church stood 159 metres tall and was the highest structure in the world!

3. The City Wall has protected the city from repeated attacks since the 13th century. Even today, 26 towers rise above the Old Town, reminding visitors how desirable a prize Tallinn once was for neighbouring powers.

4. Toompea Castle was built on the steep slope of the hill of the same name in the 13th–14th centuries. Ever since then, the highest authorities of the city and the country – from Valdemar II to the present prime minister – have governed from this very spot.

5. Niguliste Church. The former Lutheran Church of St. Nicholas now houses a wonderful concert hall and one of the four branches of the Estonian Art Museum.

6. Kiek in de Kök Tower. One of the towers in the city wall now contains Tallinn's military history museum, where you can walk through the tunnels of an old Swedish bastion.

7. Church of the Holy Spirit. This snow-white church with its octagonal tower was built in the 14th century. On the tower you can also see one of the oldest public clocks in the world.

8. St. Catherine's Passage. This lane is home to a row of workshops that still make goods using medieval techniques. You will not find more original souvenirs anywhere in Tallinn!

9. Kadriorg Park (Katharinental). This masterpiece of Baroque architecture and landscape design was presented by Peter I to his wife, the future Empress Catherine I, in 1718.

10. The Danish King's Garden. It is believed that in 1219 this was the site of a battle between crusaders and Estonians, during which the Danes miraculously received their flag.
