1. Riga Cathedral (Dom Cathedral). The majestic structure, crowned by a 140-metre tower, is famous not only for its beauty but also for one of the world's largest organs – for which Franz Liszt himself composed works.

2. Town Hall Square has been the city's political centre since the mid-14th century: from the town hall balcony, the decisions of the city council were announced to Riga's citizens.

3. St. Peter's Church, built in 1209 and a contemporary of Riga itself, was for a long time the tallest wooden structure in Europe. The bell tower offers a magnificent view of the city.

4. "The Three Brothers". The most famous architectural ensemble of Old Riga has stood on Mazā Pils Street since the late 15th century. Three houses in a row – a superb example of medieval residential architecture.

5. Riga Castle, an imposing fortress on the banks of the Daugava, was founded in 1330 and has witnessed much in its long history. Today it houses the residence of the President of Latvia, as well as several museums.

6. The collection of the National Art Museum includes works by Roerich, Aivazovsky, Purvītis, and other celebrated painters. The beautiful Baroque building was purpose-built for the museum at the beginning of the 20th century.

7. The House of the Blackheads, lavishly decorated and built in the 14th century, belonged to the brotherhood of young foreign merchants who chose the dark-skinned Saint Maurice as their patron.

8. The Cat House – one of Riga's most visited landmarks. The two symmetrical towers of this building are adorned with sculptures of cats with arched backs and cheekily raised tails.

9. The Open-Air Ethnographic Museum lets you explore traditional architecture from different regions of Latvia. This picturesque site brings together rural homes, churches, windmills, and even a working tavern.

10. Elizabetes and Alberta Streets – a true treasure trove for lovers of Art Nouveau architecture. Riga is home to around 800 Jugendstil buildings, but the majority are concentrated on these two streets.
