1. Royal Palace originally served as the city hall and at one point even vied for the title of the eighth wonder of the world. Today it is one of the three residences of the Dutch royal family.

2. Van Gogh Museum has the largest collection in the world of works by the master himself and his gifted contemporaries.

3. NEMO Science Museum is notable not only for its interactive exhibits, but also for its distinctive architecture. The observation deck on the top floor offers wonderful views of the Old Town.

4. Red Light District. This place hardly needs an introduction. It is the epicenter of Amsterdam's most provocative venues.

5. Anne Frank House. During World War II, the young Jewish girl Anne Frank hid from the Nazis with her family in the back rooms of this building. The story became widely known thanks to Anne's personal diary.

6. Rijksmuseum has an extensive collection of Dutch Golden Age painting. Among other treasures, you can see Rembrandt's famous “The Night Watch” here.

7. Damrak. Where a canal once ran, later filled in during the mid-19th century, one of Amsterdam's main streets now stretches. Here you will find numerous cultural centers, craft workshops, museums, and cafes.

8. Dam Square. The heart of Amsterdam. The square's name, echoing the city's own, comes from the dam that was built across the Amstel River in the 13th century.

9. Old Church was built in Amsterdam in 1306 and is the oldest surviving church in the city. Interestingly, it stands right in the middle of the Red Light District.

10. Floating Flower Market is set on barges along the Singel canal. Cut flowers and potted plants are sold here and, of course, the quintessential Dutch souvenir – tulip bulbs.
