Palazzo Clerici is a magnificent aristocratic mansion built at the beginning of the 18th century and located in the very heart of old Milan. The palace has a relatively modest facade, which sharply contrasts with the decorative richness of the interior. Let us cite just one fact capable of convincing you of this: in 1741, the famous Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo was invited to paint the ceiling of the gallery of Palazzo Clerici! The master's fresco depicts the course of the Sun's chariot across the sky, populated by gods, mythical creatures, and animals that are allegorical symbols of the continents.
Today, Tiepolo's art is recognized as one of the most significant phenomena in late Baroque painting, and his "The Path of the Sun on Olympus" was and remains the most significant attraction of this palazzo.
At different times, the palace was both the residence of the Austrian queen and the Government House of Napoleon. Since 1942, Palazzo Clerici has housed the Institute for International Political Studies, and various festivals and high-level meetings are often held there.
