There are many wild monkeys in Thailand, that's a fact. You can see them everywhere - in zoos, in forests, in parks. To get a closer look at these "cute" little animals, you can visit the so-called "Monkey Spot," which is located on the outskirts of Phuket Town.
It is a mangrove grove where a special platform was built for visitors to observe the monkeys in their natural habitat. A small body of water separates the grove from the platform, and the platform itself is decorated with statues of monkeys in different poses, with gilding and patterns - not exactly a masterpiece, but quite pretty.
Near the Monkey Spot, you can buy bananas or other fruit treats inexpensively and feed the animals. The monkeys have lived here for a long time and are not afraid of people, since they probably see them as an inexhaustible source of food. Since they are collective and social creatures, they come to feeding time in groups.
Feeding the monkeys by hand is not recommended, because they may bite: despite their seemingly peaceful nature, they are still wild and therefore unpredictable animals.
It is better to come here toward evening, when the heat subsides and the monkeys come out from the shade of the mangrove trees and bushes to grab a bite and at the same time stare at curious tourists.
